Message
from the President
The executive Board Members and I would like to wish all of the Members of Local
384 a Healthy and Happy New Year.
We would especially want to thank you for your patience during the Contract
Negotiations. Now that we have survived the Contract Negotiation and everyone
has been paid. I invite all of you to look to the future and help to figure out
how we can become a stronger union.
Last year I suggested that we adopt the slogan!!! GET INVOLVED !!! some of you
did step up to the plate and become involved, but I think/know that we can do
more as a group. We need more of you to become involved even in a small way.
Last year I also laid out some goals, aspirations, and challenges, some were
realized others remain open so I will relist them as projects to be worked on,
this will serve as a guideline for getting more of our members INVOLVED;
Getting our newspaper Locally Speaking up and running again is a must,
especially to keep those members who do not have access to a computer informed.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the paper please contact the
Newsletter Committee Chair Darlene C.Van Dyke at darlenecvandyke@hotmail.com.
Ethnic committees, Local 384 membership are made up of people from various
ethnic backgrounds, we would like to form a committee or committees who would
plan activities to honor and celebrate our diversity.
Last but not least I want to mention the importance in becoming affiliated with
other groups which will make us a stronger union. I am referring to PEOPLE
(Public Employee Organized to Promote Legislative Equality) is the difference
between having things happen to you and making things happen.
By participating in PEOPLE ( AFSCME political legislative and fundraising arm)
you have a direct impact on the political process from helping shape policies
and other issues that affect us to helping elect the public officials who are
your bosses.
As a public employee, your job, wages and working conditions are directly linked
to politics. We need the active participation of all members in order to make
our legislative/political program strong. For more information call
212-815-1578.
In order to accomplish these goals, aspirations, and challenges, we need you the
membership to GET INVOLVED. We therefore appeal to you to volunteer, to serve on
a committee/committees and help us serve you better. Contact Darlene C. Van Dyke
at darlenecvandyke@hotmail.com and let her know what committee's you wish to
volunteer for and work with. |
