The Occupational Safety and Health Act, a federal document, was established to set limits to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.
Additionally, the New York State Public Employee Safety and Health Act, The New York City Building Code and your Union, District Council 37, assist in the enforcement process to maintain the standards established by OSHA.
District Council 37 has a trained safety staff to improve conditions on your job. Among other things the Union has equipment which can monitor whether your office is being adequately ventilated or test for the presence of specific contaminants.
As a Union member, you have rights, and Local 384 is prepared to assist you in targeting any OSHA problem.
If you feel you are working in a situation whereby your health is endangered by toxic chemicals, asbestos, poor ventilation, insufficient lighting, noise, poor furnishings, overcrowding or symptoms due to poorly designed VDT machines, it is important that you contact your Shop Steward immediately.
